Bihar

Ethnicity

The Chotanagpur plateau is home to more than twenty tribes. They differ considerably from the non-tribal population as well as from one another. The most ancient tribe is the Mundas while the Santhals were the last of the tribes to settle in Chotanagpur. The Cheros have a light brown complexion. They migrated from the sub-Himalayan region. Other tribes are Hos, Oraon, Karias, Birhors, Sauria, Paharias, Mal Paharias, Birjias, Asurs, Bhumijs, etc.

People from the North and Central Bihar are Aryans who came from Central Asia and entered this province after Maharshi Agastya crossed river Gandak and burnt down Dandakaranya, the forest covering this region.
