Jharkhand

Agriculture

Agriculture was never the foundation of the economy in the region of Jharkhand. But now, almost 80% of the population in this mineral-rich state is dependent on agriculture. With the creation of Jharkhand, there was a feeling that in future the state would have to be self dependent for its agricultural products. This has led to several schemes for the development of agriculture and agriculture-related industries in the state.

Rice is the major crop of Jharkhand, and pulses and wheat are the other ones. In the new policy for agriculture, an increase in the pulse production, an increase in the land under cultivation, the development of irrigation facilities and the development of agriculture-related businesses have been given top priority.
