Agriculture

The state's economy is largely agriculture-based and 70% of the population is involved in this industry. About 17% of the state's total land area is under forest cover.

The principal food crops are rice, maize, jowar, bajra, ragi, and pulses. The cash crops include cotton, sugarcane, oilseeds, coffee, tea, rubber, and chilies.
