British Rule In India
The 19th century had the British gaining political control of nearly all Indian lands. The few Indian armed forces that were part of the British army have played a crucial role in World War 1 as well as World War 2. The Nonviolent resistance movements were headed by MAHATMA GANDHI and JAWAHARLAL NEHRU against the British and led to India's independence in 1947. This subcontinent was then divided into the country of India and a smaller Muslim country of Pakistan.
