Jammu & Kashmir is situated in the northern part of India. Jammu & Kashmir has an essence of Indian culture, history, tradition and people. The state has a history of over 4,000 years. Jammu & Kashmir has many prehistoric sites, which show some indication of human settlement in this region 4,000 years ago.
The state became a part of India in 1948, when the then ruler of Jammu & Kashmir agreed to join the Indian federation and the state of Jammu & Kashmir was given a special status under article 370 of the Indian constitution. |
