Andaman And Nicobar Islands


The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has a vast forest resource base. 7,171 sq km from the total area of 8,240 sq km of the island is covered by forests. A large variety of timber is found in the Andaman group of islands. On the islands has also been discovered some of earth’s gold, limestone, nickel and sulphur. The Oil And Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) is continuing the exploration for oil and gas here. The Union Territory has a number of small scale, village and handicrafts units. In the agro-processing sectors the number of export-oriented units is also increasing. The Andaman and Nicobar Integrated Development Corporation has made its presence felt in tourism, industries, fisheries and industrial financing activities.
